Jerdon’s courser was first recorded in 1848 by Thomas C Jerdon, a British surgeon. It was thought to be extinct in 1900s untill rediscovered in 1986. Since the rediscovery in Forest department (Vineet Kumar IFS officer) and other researchers has been focused on Sri Lankamalleswara Wildlife Sanctuary and its immediate fringes which is a crucial area for JC’s conservation.
