Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple šŸ›•

Vontimitta, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, India.

“Kodanda Rama” means Rama with his bow. The temple is known for unique architecture, featuring exquisite sculptures, especially the Madhya Ranga Mandapam with 32 carved pillars, granite constructions, a large gopuram (gateway), and detailed artwork.

Built around the Lord Rama, Mata Sita, and Sri Lakshmana staying there during their exile. Home to intricate gopurams, a single rock idol of Lord Sri Rama, Mata Sita, and Sri Lakshmana. It is believed to be 1000+ years old with distinct histories from Chola (10th Century)Ā /Vijayanagara (16th Century) origins.

It belongs to Vibhishana’s surrender, and literary connections to poets like Bammera Potana, Vavilakolanu Subba Rao and crucial pilgrimage site for festivals like Rama Navami etc. Believed to be where Rama shot an arrow to find water for Sita, creating the sacred Ramathirtham and Lakshmanathirtham tanks.
